oops - it should have read "sans sleeping bag or tent" - and the bivvi - according to my GPS was at about 5015m

Hi Everyone- just back from Argentina. What ccan I say - the most intense climbing experience fro a long time - crossing 60km into the Atacama, and then, at times the only person in maybe 400 square kilometres. 'Survived'an open emergency bivvi at over 500m, sand sleeping bag, tent etc.

Solo-ed Volcan del Viento ( 6120m ) and the ( on the second attempt ), Ojos del Salado - the main objective. Climbed through 40 degree slopes of ice and rock. Enjoying, yet concerned by the total solitude of the effort ( not a single person at 'basecamp' or on the slopes ).11.5 hours to the 6882m top and then six hours down, reaching my tent just as it went completely dark.Pictures and full story up on my website in a week's time or so. Nice to read of all your wintertime activities in the States.

off belay,
dave
