Carrie
If Ed wants to climb Grays with me, he'll just have to get in line.

no problema, magoo, and thanks BBob.

Lance just delivered the knockout punch.

Tim and BBob - Thanks for sharing the photos from your climb. There are some nice shots, and nice views, there.

I added some color shots of Tim in CO

Tim, great to view your photos. I put a permanent link to your photos on this page's Links section. Loved the goat! That's a priceless photo.

I've posted a few black and white shots from my Colorado trip:

I was hoping to include some color photos that BBob took, but somehow they didn't get stored on my computer in the appropriate format.  hopefully we can talk BBob into making a contribution.  He took a wonderful shot of a mama mountain goat and her kid.

Thanks Carrie for the heads up on the EV auction (I'm sure BBob would pay $500 to climb with Ian Woodall and Cathy O'Dowd).  I noticed I was only the 25th person to visit the page and still no bids.  Maybe the climbing "fad" has passed?

Grover - I have the book but it's in my stack. I do look forward to reading it - thanks for the little review.

Carrie - I'm not sure I would be willing to pay $500 to climb with someone I don't know - even if he is famous. It would be a nice way to finish my project (I'm at number 99 now) but I have made other plans with 5 friends to climb number 100 at the end of August. I don't believe I will cancel with them for EV. However, EV is welcome to stay an extra week and join me - free of charge.

Hey, jean, how about you? Ed will be climbing Grays on August 21st. If you time it right...you might see him on the summit!

1/2 OFF SALE! Climb Grays Peak with Ed Viesturs for 1/2 the price! In August Ed Viesturs will be climbing Grays Peak with the See You at the Top! Summit to Cure Lung Cancer. Their website indicates 10 people will win the chance to climb with Ed by bidding on ebay, minimum starting bid is $1000. Interesingly enough...the ebay auction has been going on for five days now and there are *0* bids. The ebay page indicates 8 people will climb with Ed (not 10) and the minimum starting bid is $500 (not $1000). I wonder if the reduced price is due to lack of interest? The bidding ends on July 25th. It will be interesting to see if anyone ends up taking advantage of this opportunity. BBob, is the price right now? BTW, in addition to climbing with Ed you get to take home a signed copy of his book Himalayan Quest, a JanSport pack and Leki trekking poles and you get your photo taken with him on the summit of Grays (assuming, of course, that you make the top!).

In the interest of fair and balanced reporting**, I should note that I am equally distressed by the history of my own faith the more I learn about it...and I know quite enough already....

No organized religion is off-limits here, eh Bob?

**which we all know is never either

I read Under the Banner of Heaven about 6 mos ago.  Thought that it was as fair a treatment of the LDS church and its various unfortunate sects as I've seen.  I wasn't very familiar with the history of the LDS church, though I was raised in a very Mormon town (half of the families were Mormon; the rest of us, it seemed, were Catholic. We all had big families).  Many of my friends growing up were LDS.  Everyone went off to Brigham Young U and the guys went off to their missions not so soon after.   JK starts off by saying he grew up in a town that must not have been too unlike my hometown...

But the more you get to know about the history of the Mormon church, the more you struggle with it. At least, I did, and it seemed that JK did too.   But he's a great storyteller as always.

I confess that I intended to research some of the history, but never got around to it.

I gave the book to a good friend who happens to be very devout Mormon who attended BYU and spends much of her spare time in and around Salt Lake and Provo visiting friends even though she lives in Seattle and is not as conservative in her thinking as one might expect a nice Mormon girl to be.  I don't know that she's finished reading it yet.  I'll have to see what her thoughts are.
