Would it be ethical to use someone else's summit video with your own voice edited in over the picture?
Say you had bad weather on your own summit day and couldn't get the greatest pictures. You just get someone else's great summit footage and put your voice over it saying whatever you like. What? Does someone have a problem with that?

This is the update referenced by magoo. Prepare to pass the hat for the Everest Net legal defense team!

Hi All,

Inspired by lifting Tim out of the doldrums (sorry to hear it Tim), I've pasted the pics of Byron on the left and the Dane on the right. Wow! Someone is lying or this is one of the biggest coincidences I've ever seen. Check it out:

http://homepage.mac.com/debcornish/Byron_left_Dane_Right.png

There's an update on mounteverest.net on the Byron story. But my question is, how did Byron get the Dane's video tape? Sure, blame the video editor. I'll be watching this story.

If Everest News says he summitted, that's good enough for me ... they also state that he is "one of Canada's best motivational speakers." Impressive. [IS THAT SUFFICIENT? PLEASE DON'T SUE ME!]

Thanks for the Everest Net stuff, magoo--helps me out of the doldrums. Shoulder update: An MRI showed that the rotator cuff was intact, so I'm getting physical therapy, maybe it will be enough. Still very weak and the thought of pushing 50 meters of wet rope thru a belay device creates a more troubling picture of my physical (in)capacity than making a move on rock. It's one thing to screw yourself up, another thing entirely to screw up someone else.

Hi Bruce,

Re: Byron Smith. It was on the front page of mounteverest.net, but it's been taken off, here's the story:

No freaking way!

Lori lives! How's it goin' chicka?

Magoo -what did you mean by BS is at it again?

Hey all. We finally replaced our old beast of a jeep, and with more reliable 4WD capability, have been spending more time in the mountains (I've been draaggginnngggg that husband of mine away from the office). Nothing too elaborate, although we have plans for Utah in October. The dogs send their love to all.

Magoo, will keep Trevor in my prayers.

Lori

travelling alone at 17,000 feet contains some inherent risks. Likely that Lobuche was his starting point for EBC. Bad weather could have put him in immediate peril, depending on his situation. I would venture that he did not have anyone looking out for him--and just about any Sherpa would have gone out after him if they knew he was missing. Strange that no remains have been found. Most of our high tech clothing is fairly colorful and would stand out against a backdrop of scree. I don't think an avalanche is a likely event in this area, but I was there in one of the dryest years on record [and I just read the story magoo posted, which states there was avalanche activity in the area].

Our sirdar said that the group of trekkers he was leading the previous year had had a real epic on their visit to Base Camp (when a storm hit).

It's heartbreaking to read Trevor's family's blog. It's a story we've read all too often in our climbing books.

What is weird is that he wasn't even on the mountain, just on the walk in. I know several of you that have taken that same walk so you know where he's at/been?

What's happened to him? Avalanche? A fall? Abduction? They haven't been able to find a trace of him yet.

As always, a good article here: http://www.mounteverest.net/news.php?id=460

Byron Smith is at it again.

Hello all.

Here's an interesting story about Trevor Skokol, a local guy (Plano, TX) who disappeared on his way to Everest Base Camp on July 22, 2005.

Here's a website devoted to the search for him; http://www.beverleylewin.com/trevorstokol.html
