Magoo, further to your ' passionately advanced arguments ', I , too , have been surprised at what Bush has been able to get away with so little scrutiny. Two cases come to mind. One is highlighted admirably in Fahrenheit 911. It is Bush's nearly 7 minutes of inaction after his Chief of Staff has whispered to him " Mr President, the Nation is under attack ". I find the potential implications of this inaction staggering. While Bush had been told of the first plane hitting the Twin Towers prior to meeting with the students, he wouldn't have known what was the nature of the attack Andrew Card was referring to. Missiles might have been on their way from submarines in the Atlantic, bombers might have been heading toward major cities, and yet, for 7 minutes, he did nothing! Still, the major media has never held his feet to the fire over this, allowing him to say lamely, he didn't want to alarm the children.
The other one that amazes me has to do with his apparent non-service with the Alabama National Guard. I am surprised that no one in the Media has challenged him to produce 5 or 6 people who can say " Oh yeah, I remember George, I served with him in the Guard in 1972 ". I could certainly produce at least twice that number who could attest to my activities in 1972. Admittedly, they'd be mostly bartenders and drug dealers, but I could produce them. Ah, it just occurred to me, maybe, that's the problem.
