Rose - hard to say what's going on with interest and/or activity on Everest. I think the easy answer is a combination of burnout and too many soft stories. I think I can safely say that from what I've seen the focus of the outdoor marketing/media machinery is shifting away from the mountains. The reasons for this range from the lingering effects of Sept 11 to an aging boomer class and even a younger demo that is expressing themselves through shorter-term/lower commitment activities.

And as we have seen here on our little forum, kayaking is running away with the popular vote as the choice for adventure - just take a look at how many magazine covers feature kayaks... well except for Outside, which lately seems to have a fixation on hot, hairless males who don't own a shirt.
