Seems as though the Fossett story has faded from the front page. If he was lost to an accident, it goes to show that there is no amount of practice that can save one from fate.
The spirit of Summit Journal Chat actually predates 1996, when a small cadre of climbing enthusiasts began a discussion on Outside Online. Our origin traces to the time when we first stood on two legs. The aftermath of those first steps has led us to question, but the answer is as elusive as ever. One thing seems certain – it’s not out there. It’s within and that provokes a wilderness, the likes of which we have rarely seen. Summit Journal Chat is a trek into that wilderness.
